If God really is the Creator of everything, what should that actually change about how you live today?
In this Sunday message, Pastor Dave asked the congregation this question: "Since God is, and since He is the Creator of everything, what should our lives actually look like in response?" Working through Psalm 33, Romans 1, Luke 4, Genesis 1, Psalm 46, Matthew 6, Matthew 22, and Joshua 1, he offered five responses.
We Should Worship Him - Worship comes first. Pastor Dave read Psalm 33:8–9, "Let all the earth fear the LORD... For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast," and explained that "fear" here means reverence, not dread. From Romans 1, he pointed out that God's invisible attributes are clearly seen in creation, leaving humanity without excuse. "If you want to become a worshiper of God, begin with thanksgiving," he said. "An unthankful person thinks that they're the source." He closed the point with Jesus's temptation in Luke 4, where Satan offered Him the kingdoms of the world for worship, and Jesus refused, quoting Deuteronomy: worship and service belong to God alone.
We Should Be Good Stewards - Reading Genesis 1:26–31 in full this time, Pastor Dave emphasized that only mankind was made in God's image and given dominion over creation. "Man is not to serve creation. Creation serves man. Now, we care for creation," he clarified, addressing what he called an imbalance in the culture. He shared a principle from Warren Wiersbe about worshiping God, loving people, and using things for God's glory and the good of others, then added his own honest observation: since the fall, people tend to reverse that order, loving things, worshiping things, and using people instead. He illustrated it with a story about a man whose truck stays spotless while his kids go without. "Take care of your things. But above everything, take care of the people in your life."
We Should Trust God's Providence - From Psalm 46, Pastor Dave reminded everyone that God didn't simply wind up creation like an old watch and walk away. "God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble." He connected this to Jesus's teaching in Matthew 6 that our Father already knows what we need, so we can live without worry or dread. "The God who started it all is sustaining it all."
We Should Love and Serve Mankind - Referencing Matthew 22 and the two great commandments, Pastor Dave reminded the church that every person is a fellow image bearer of God, even the ones who are hardest to love. "Do you ever think that when somebody's rubbing you the wrong way, they might just be God's sandpaper smoothing off one of your rough edges?" True love, he said, seeks the highest good of the other person, not just our own comfort.
We Should Read and Study God's Word - Finally, from Joshua 1:7–8, Pastor Dave urged the congregation to meditate on Scripture day and night, noting that "success" appears in the Bible, as far as he can tell, only in connection to obedience to God's Word. He closed in prayer, inviting the church to worship, trust, and walk in obedience.
